Our Research on Ginkgo Biloba suggests:

Ginkgo Biloba, also known as the Maidenhair Tree, the Temple tree or the Fossil tree, is a unique species of tree with no close relatives. It is a living fossil which hasn't changed during its very long lifetime (Pliocene 200 million years).
Ginkgo Biloba were apparently planted and preserved by Chinese monks over a period of about 1000 years in Zhejiang province. There are female ginkgo trees and male ginkgo trees. Some trees are over 1000 and up to 3000 years old.
Ginkgo biloba trees rarely suffer disease problems, even in urban conditions. Few insects do attack them. Four Ginkgo Biloba trees located less than 2 km from the 1945 atom bomb explosion in Hiroshima, were chared, but survived. They were soon healthy again and are still alive today. Other plants and animals in that area were destroyed.
The extract of Ginkgo Biloba leaves is used as memory and concentration enhancer, and anti-vertigo agent.
There is some controversy, since studies differ about Ginkgo Biloba's efficacy.
• According to researchers at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute, significant improvement in verbal recall has been reported among a group of people with age-associated memory impairment who took the herbal supplement for 6 months.
• According to a 2004 conference, various trials indicate that Ginkgo shows promise in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
• According to a 2008 study, Ginkgo was found ineffective at treating dementia.
Ginkgo Biloba is often mispelled as Gingko Biloba, Ginkgo Bilboa, Gingko Bilbao and maybe other forms. Ginkgo is derived from the Japanese 銀杏 Ginkyô. The g instead of a y is due to a bad spelling from Engelbert Kaempfer, the 1st westerner who saw such a tree in Japan in 1690.
Precaution:
Avoid to take Ginkgo Biloba with other meds or supplements that are thinning the blood or affecting platelets (e.g. aspirin among many others).
Verdict:
Ginkgo Biloba may not have a tangible effect on you, if you are still young with a fresh memory, but if you observe first signs of forgetfulness, your best choice would be Ginkgo Biloba tablets equivalent to 6000 mg of fresh leaves.
